Ghotbedin Sadeghi

Dr. Sadeghi introduces the concept of “apartment theater” as a modern, democratic, and people-oriented form of contemporary art, aimed at bringing theater back into the heart of society.

He views theater not merely as a form of performance art, but as a tool for rebuilding the collective spirit, shaping critical thinking, and strengthening the desire to live. By tracing the history of theater venues—from Greek amphitheaters to the enclosed halls of the Middle Ages—he shows that a performance space is not just a physical location but a reflection of the spirit of the times and the social structure of its era.

“Apartment theater” is a creative response to the challenges of accessing art in today’s urban landscape: a small-scale theater without expensive sets or lighting, offering an intimate and close connection with the audience. It enters people’s homes directly and speaks a language that resonates with everyday people and fits within the cultural fabric of families.

The main goal of this talk is to revive the lost connection between people and theater—a theater that is participatory, dialogical, and thought-provoking, enabling the audience to gain deeper insights into themselves and their society. Dr. Sadeghi believes this form of theater can open up new job opportunities for young artists and help preserve the human capital of the performing arts.

His final message is clear: if traditional theater halls no longer meet today’s needs, then theater must come into people’s homes. If the public has grown distant from theater, then art must reach out to them. This idea is a chance that deserves to be more widely spread and kept alive.
